Nasi Lemak 2.0

Ok. I gotto admit that I am not a fan of local movie production. Primarily becos they lack the artistic edge, production capability and the creative talents. Thats in my opinion and my opinion only.  I've recently went to watch I Love Wing Chun. Its a local production comprising many local artiste and very well known HK actors as well.  I thought to myself, wow, this could be the start of something good for the local movie scene.  Big name actors, big name director and mostly importantly, a lot of my friends are acting in the movie.

And the movie?? OMFG. I wanted to walk out of the cinema after 30mins. I kid you not, i fell asleep 3 times during the I Love Wing Chun movie.  And every time i got woken up is becos I felt my phone buzzing. Woke up check my phone, replied continue to sleep. I am glad I went to watch the movie alone and spared the gf the boredom and idiot script of the movie. The acting is shit, the production of shit, the audio editing is shit, basically EVERYTHING is shit. Glad that I watch the movie on a wednesday and only paid 6 bucks for it at Tropicana City Mall. Well, 6 bucks for a 1.5 hour nap in a cinema.

I swore to myself, there is no way the a local movie production will ever meet my expectations and that I will NEVER pay good money to watch a local production. That is until I met my friend Dennis Lau, a renown violinist in Malaysia.  He told me that he was the supporting lead actor in a local produciton called Nasi Lemak 2.0 and that after 1 week of the movie releasing, it grossed RM1.5m. I thought to myself, wow, for a local production, that quite a lot.  I promised him that I will go and watch it.  I asked around my friends and on my FB PAGE about comments and to my surprised, 10 out of 10 people that watched the movie told me it is good. And someone even told me that I should go watch it quick as the govt. is thinking of banning the movie. So i immediately went to check out the cinemas to purchase a ticket. DING DING DING. for 1 week, i could not get a ticket as every time slot in my two fav cinemas are fully sold out. I finally managed to watch the movie last week and truth be told, i was laughing from start to end. You can check out the movie trailer on the movie website and more information on the movie on the facebook page.

The overall acting of all the artiste is very good.  Previously, I had an opinion that all local actors over act too much and they are basically trying to get more face time etc etc etc.  In this movie, all actors involved are so natural. Namewee, the actor and director pulled off his role, Dennis Lau did great. Karen Kong also did great.  All the big names in the local entertainment industry all did great.  The only actress that I tot didn't do so great is Nadine Ann Thomas. I thought her acting was a little stiff and she didn't portrayed her role that well.  Overall, all the other did wonderfully good.

If you guys don't know who is Namewee, you can wiki him.  He basically got famous when he wrote the song Negarakuku and angered a lot of people esp. in the govt sector and the malays.  But this movie is not about him or anything.  I feel that Nasi Lemak 2.0 embodies the whole 1Malaysia spirit and showcase the multicultural synergy of the entire country.

Certain media has took a shot at the movie and Namewee such as Utusan Malaysia and Malaysian Insider's article.  Its the same article written by Fauziah Arof, which I feel has a personal vendetta against Namewee.

And the ever vocal Namewee, he posted a reply blasting Fauziah Arof and her judgmental reporting. A youtube video of this fireback is linked here.

Enough Talk. Go watch the movie before it is supposedly banned.
